How to rename Active Directory domains that host Lync Server 2010

Interesante artículo de MSFT de como renombrar un dominio que tiene un servidor Lync 2010

You may have to rename an Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) domain that includes servers that run Microsoft Lync Server 2010. However, Lync Server 2010 does not support the AD DS domain rename operation. To work around this issue, you can follow these steps:
  1. Decommission Lync Server 2010 in the Active Directory domain that you plan to rename.
  2. Rename the Active Directory domain.
  3. Redeploy Lync Server 2010.

Lync Server 2010 has no mechanism to block an AD DS domain rename operation when the domain contains computers that are running Lync Server 2010. Before you can rename an Active Directory domain that includes Lync Server 2010, you must first completely remove Lync Server 2010 from the domain. When you do this, you should have the documentation for your Lync Server 2010 topology available so that you can rebuild the topology after you rename the domain.

For more information about how to decommission Lync Server 2010, see the Lync Server 2010 documentation on the following Microsoft TechNet website:

The AD DS domain rename process is complex and requires extensive planning. You should test the process in a lab before you rename any domains in the production environment.

After the Active Directory domain is renamed, you have to redeploy Lync Server 2010 by following the same steps that you used to deploy the software. If you originally used the Lync Server 2010 Planning Tool to deploy Lync Server 2010, you might be able to use the saved topology information from that tool to redeploy Lync Server 2010. Otherwise, you must redeploy your topology from scratch.
